The opinion of successful micro-apartment providers was essential to set the requirements for this project. In general, it can be stated that a neutral look that is non-interruptive to the spatial feeling is preferred as these apartments are already short on space, as Mondial and the Studentenwerk Potsdam stated in an interview. Moreover, a durable material should be used for the furniture, and it should also be noted that local availability of material would be beneficial about our environment. Additionally, an easy repair of parts provides the possibility of a long service life and saves money.
Several ideas preceded the final design. It started with the idea that the shelf should preferably have no loose parts to prevent missing parts or theft, but after the interviews with housing providers, it was found to be that this is a really low risk.
Continuing with that knowledge, the next idea has been working with the graphical trend that goes around in student housing, as well as the thought of creating an entirely new hock system that no other peg board used before. Nevertheless, also this idea made things complicated as the object should be self-explanatory and not create further problems or raise questions.
Continued by material testing, a hook form was decided that could hold up a lot of weight. From then forward, the last important thought was which connection would be universal enough to work with various elements whose use are of different origins.
